Sink Miami Sink! By Marc Davis [18 Feb 2008|09:31pm]
"The first blow would come in the form of nothing more than simple numbers..."9:30". This is the time the show would start. It made everyone a bit saddened to know that there would be 13 bands playing and it would start at 9:30. With morale already low, our heroes take to the road. The day starts looking up. A short drive and we see our exit. Then the day quickly looks back down... almost to say that it's embarrassed it reared its ugly head in the first place. Lost. We become lost in a strange land in Miami, in what some may call a "ghetto."

Upon arriving at the bar, a good turnout is noticed right away. This is always pleasing. More so, however, when the crowd seems like they'd listen to and/or appreciate your music and when they do NOT look like they'd throw blunt objects at your neck and chest. Due to lack of sleep, Marc and Patrick both felt as if they were on some kind of delusional trip. Strange paintings, bright lights and women with dog head masks would boggle their feeble minds and have them running for cover.

Show time was finally approaching, and with it a new rising hell.

The band that was supposed to go on after us, name withheld, was getting restless as they started setting their stuff in front of the already set up instruments. That is when a very irate (and very large) member of the aforementioned "restless band" started yelling at Joel. We were told that "if [they] don't start playing now, I WILL STAB EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU." Hurray! After the soundman finally turned off the club music, our trusted group broke into a VERY fast and well done 5 song set.

As soon as the last note was played, they couldn't have been caught by the fastest of men. After they loaded up, they were GONE. So gone, in fact, that they knew not where they were going. It was decided to take a random road and see if it led to their homeland. And, of course, it did the very opposite of that. It drove them up, up, up and away from where they needed to be.5 hours from where they needed to be!

5 hours. That's how long it took this pack of wounded wolves to get home. Disheveled and beaten. Torn and battered. Bruised and twisted. These words only mildly describe how this group felt as they crossed a small green sign marked "now entering Lee County." -the sun beating down on their faces long after the moon had gone down... after all of this, these people would never be the same again. Going back home to worried mothers and fathers... falling into the arms of sleep, they would wake up forever changed."

Waiting... [19 Oct 2007|11:48pm]
[ mood | contemplative ]

"We wait. We are bored. No, don't protest, we are bored to death, there's no denying it. Good. A diversion comes along and what do we do? We let it go to waste...In an instant all will vanish and we'll be alone once more, in the midst of nothingness!"

!!! [10 Aug 2006|01:51pm]

i was going to say "thanks" to andrew harmon, but i don't know that "thanks" is really what we want to say.

while i'm here, patrick is living in chicago now. hopefully, he'll be playing some music soon! mike and marc are in a band called 'pop pop' with doug from strip club moms as well as still working on the exploding pages stuff and let's go exploring! which have been playing a few shows around town.

also, thank to drawing maps for letting us use their instruments and play two songs before patrick left and beatniks. we had fun!

hope everyone is well.

hello everyone. [10 Feb 2006|09:39am]
today would've been the anchorite four's birthday if the anchorite four hadn't died in a horrible car wreck and burned to death because its seatbelt wouldn't unbuckle.

while i'm here, a quick update on everyone in case anyone still reads and/or cares:

- patrick is working on a project with joel, the old school a4 guitarist. it will apparently be along the lines of gs!ybe and mogwai stuff which is pretty exciting.

- patrick, marc and mike are going to one day, i hope, be able to finish an "a man was in austing today killed by bees" album if...

- mike and marc can stop working on the "exploding pages" record for two seconds. almost all of the music is done. working on getting an accordian and doing horn parts and a cello.

- mike and marc are also playing with a dude from a band that played around here and that's pretty cool and exciting!

- there has also been talk about the four of us (with joel) getting together and jamming around and recording an album under a name that is not the anchorite four.

so that's it. thanks a lot for reading!

i don't know why anyone would still read this thing, but i made an a4 website with links and stuff.

other than that, there's not much to update. i think we mentioned before that marc and i are in a new band, the name of which is kind of in flux. but anyway, you can listen here:

take care!

we made over $1,000 for hurricane katrina refugees from the show friday. since we're going to be donating through a company which matches every dollar of our donation, that means thanks to everyone who came out the contribution will be over $2,000. awesome and thank you again.

the final countdown [18 Sep 2005|01:33pm]
last night was an amazing time. we want to re-thank everyone who came out there for the show. i think all of the bands were in top form and sounded great. everything just sounded really from the heart and it was just awesome. it's so awesoe to be able to say that no one there brought alchohol or tried to act like a jerk and everyone seemed to have respected the rules of casa de hoople except for some girl that tried to steal a painting. what?

this coming friday is the last chance to see the anchorite four. right now, the bands are drawing maps and us. there may be another band or two added last second or some other crazy surprises. who knows? if you've ever been into the anchorite four, if you want to support hurricane katrina victims and have something to do at the same time, if you're downtown and want to drop by, if you want to just say hello, if you want to tell us how much you've hated us as a band or personally or any other reason.... friday is the day to do it. come wax poetic with us and we take a trip down anchorite four memory lane and then call it a night. joel legros, the "four" in the anchorite four will be there playing some songs with us. this should not be missed.

and as most of you already know by now, andrew howard died two days ago in his sleep of a heart attack. a lot of people are going around calling him the guitarist of twisted method (probably just because that's the easiest way to identify him) but for us in the anchorite four, especially patrick, he was a friend we all knew before the band. he was a great guy, a father, an awesome guitarist and an amazing friend. it was really rough on us yesterday to find out what happened and it was just really awesome to be able to play a show like yesterday for people like the ones who came out last night. andrew would've been happy to see that many people having such a good time just by seeing some bands in a house. he'll definitely be missed.

going to the hoople show satuday? [14 Sep 2005|11:27am]
we hope you are. the people that live there wanted us to let people know a few things. the first is that you should park across the street at the skatium (across the street) and just walk over. maybe stop by the stop & go on the corner and pick up some 4/$1 soda (ok, i added that part) if you're thirsty, because the other thing is that there will be no drinking allowed. so, don't bring alchohol and don't drink any there, ok? and i'll just add that these people open up their house to have shows, a relatively chaotic and uncertain activity, and that a great way to thank them for it would be to make sure nothing bad happens while the show's happening (i.e. stuff getting stolen, broken, etc). thanks.

we have decided to donate all of the proceeds we make from our last two shows to help the victims of hurricane katrina. we all have our own personal reasons for feeling affected by it, as well as the more general and pressing importance of assisting the people in new orleans and elsewhere on the gulf coast that are still in dire need of help.

also, just as an aside, if you are looking to donate, there are several companies (i know lowes is one we're planning on donating through) that will match the funds you donate dollar for dollar-- effectively doubling the contribution. just worth a thought.

thanks to everyone who came out to the show last night and who is planning on coming out to the last two, we had, and i am sure we will continue to have, a blast.

ahem! [07 Aug 2005|01:51am]
allow us to dust off the cobwebs! we have some very interesting news. well, at least interesting to us. hopefully some of you will agree.

we have news on the last anchorite four shows. here's what we know. there will most likely be three of them. one of them is already booked, one of them is half way booked and one of them we're just kind of hoping for and are waiting to get in touch with the dude that runs things. it seems that all of these shows will fall in september. it should go something like this:

some weekend in early september: hoople mansion

saturday, september 10th: beatnik's cafe (definite)

some weekend in the end of september: hopefully that church place in fort myers.

that church one will be our last show. if anyone knows any information on how to get in touch with them please let us know! we appreciate it. we'll give more information as we get it. thanks for all who still give a damn!
